Fit Over 40

July 23rd, 2009

Whenever I am asked how old I am one of the answers I will sometimes give is that there has been a lot of water gone under this bridge. I don’t really know where this comes from, maybe my father had something to do with it.

Nowadays we seem to be more obsessed about age than we ever have been, people tend to want to stay young, rather than grow old gracefully, I suppose that is why plastic surgery is now just routine.

When we were young people over 40 were old codgers, when you get to 40 younger people just don’t know where its at. Maybe we should all just be thankful that we are still around to enjoy life to the full.

For the thought that when you get to 40 you are over the hill, the reply should be life begins at 40, the one thing you do attain as you get older is experience in many things and a better understanding of life.

I have been fortunate in my life to have spent a lot of time on the road, this has led to meeting many people, of many different cultures and countries and overall there was a general understanding that older people should be respected, when the respect is not present, that is when you have problems.

A very funny writer in the UK was once asked what was his definition of old age, to which he replied Old age is when you think it is perfectly normal to spend most of the evening in the toilet! I think when you get to that stage you have got some serious thinking to do.

I have spent a large part of my life involved in sport and one of the questions you ask yourself when you stop is what do I do now. The answer is obvious, you don’t have to stop, just maybe change to a less physical or demanding type. Fitness is not just in the body, a large part of being fit is also in the mind and also what you eat and your lifestyle.

Nowadays a lot of fitness regimes tend to revolve around the younger generation, this is not a bad thing as a big problem worldwide seems to be childhood obesity, I also think young people spend more time indoors so getting them out is good.

There is a good site for fitness and health relating to those over 40 and it can be found here:

A Poor Immune System Directly Relates to Your Success!

July 23rd, 2009

The discipline required to build Real Wealth should also be applied to build Real Health. Health is an achievement related to lifestyle.

To enjoy Health we must have a Healthy Immune System which is our first line of defense. It is a network of cells and organs working harmoniously to control invaders which constantly threaten our health.

Immune Defenses normally co-exist peacefully within the body. When foreign organisms called Antigens are detected, alert signals are sent to prepare the system for battle. The secret is the Immune System’s dynamic communications network of White Blood Cells called Leukocytes. Different WBC’s do different jobs, from patrolling to early warning to hunter-destroyer to the clean up crew. Millions of Leukocytes organize into companies and groups and relay messages like swarming bees. The WBC’s engulf, neutralize and dispose of invaders which can be germs, bacteria or foreign substances.

White Blood Cells are produced in areas of the body such as bone marrow the thymus and the spleen. Up to 40% of the Immune System is located in the digestive system, the gastro intestinal tract. A sick G.I. tract means a Weakened Immune System which invites many allergies, diseases and immune deficiencies. Can you see the importance of your bones other than needing them to sit or walk or throw a ball ?

The Top diseases in the Western World are three C’s, Cancer, Coronary Occlusion (heart attack) and Cerebral Occlusion (stroke). For the first time we are seeing degenerative diseases in our children! Why are people so sick today?

At the top of the list is:

* Standard American Diet

* Overstress

* Polluted Environment

* Poor Living Habits

* Depleted Crop Soils

Every time we eat dead food like processed sugar, corrupt meat, and refined carbohydrates devoid of essential nutrients, we overwhelm our defense system and congest the G.I.tract setting up Auto-toxic conditions. The absolutely worst thing to happen to an army is for it’s destroyer soldiers to be knocked out. Yet this is exactly what happens when sugar enters the blood stream. The higher the glucose levels the more the invading bacteria can proliferate while at the same time the warrior WBC’s get sluggish and unable to battle just like so many drunken soldiers!

The Good News:

No matter what condition, building your immune system will ease or even eradicate many health conditions.

How to Naturally Grow Taller - Understanding How We Grow

July 23rd, 2009

Many people don’t like using supplements instead they ask how to naturally grow taller. In my opinion if you understand something you can fix it, change it, do what you want with it. For example when I feel sick and am displaying weird symptoms the first place I go is the internet. I Google the symptoms, see what I have and research what I can do to get better. Simple! I feel that if people understand how they grow maybe they can discover a way of boosting their growth. Read on for more information on how we grow.

When you were a baby you actually had more bones than you do now (I bet you expected to have more bones now right?). When we were little many of our bones consisted of a substance that is known as cartilage and as we grow older that cartilage manages to go on to fuse and transform into solid bone. This process still happens throughout our lives as it lengthens and stretches out our bones.

Putting pressure on your bones (especially your spine) can slow down the process of transformation. This is why many people seem to stop growing. To resolve this you need to make sure that you sleep. Yes that’s right, sleep is my big tip! Not the 6-7 hours you normally get but you need to have 8-10 hours of sleep which is the recommended time that allows your spine to recover from the pressure, straighten out and lengthen making you taller.

With the right amount of sleep, nutrition and a healthy lifestyle you will be able to grow naturally easily.

Growing was a real problem for me a few years back, the question that kept popping in my head was ” How do I get taller? ” I tried many methods and just before I gave up on what seemed to be a long journey I found it… GrowingTallerForIdiots.com actually managed to help me grow 2 inches taller it’s true, height and happiness can’t be separated.

3 Getting Taller Secrets That You Ought to Know

July 23rd, 2009

There has been a recent increase in products that are supposedly meant to help you grow taller. But not known to many, there are 3 getting taller secrets that can help you gain some height…no matter what your age is! So if you have always desired to add a couple more inches to your height, there is hope for you.

In today’s society, lacking height can seriously damper your progress both romantically and professionally. This in spite of all the efforts made in getting rid of discrimination at work and in public.

So it is no wonder that many men want to find the fast and easy way out to increase their height, and that includes going for costly limb lengthening surgeries.

But the fact is, you do not need to subject yourself to the painful surgery process. Growing taller can be a totally natural process if you know these few secrets to increasing height.

Here are the 3 getting taller secrets that you should know in order to be a few inches taller in a few weeks time:

#1 Secret: Exercising

Your body produces a hormone called the human growth hormone (HGH) throughout your life. This hormone is responsible for growth and cell production in human beings. However, as we grow older, the secretion of this hormone decreases.

Scientific studies show that our brain releases a higher amount of HGH after we perform high intensity aerobics exercises. The increased HGH helps make you taller by generating more cartilage on the ends of the bones, effectively lengthening your limbs and your body in general.

#2 Secret: Proper Nutrition

Exercising can help increase the amount of HGH produced by your body. But that alone is not enough. Since HGH is made from amino acid that is derived from proteins, you need to consume food rich in proteins in good proportions.

That said, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals are all part of a good nutrition - taking each of these in right amounts complement each other to help release more HGH in your body.

#3 Secret: Sufficient Rest

The last part of our secrets to getting taller is for you to give your body enough rest, especially during sleep. Make sure you clock enough sleep hours every night.

Getting too little sleep in the night will not give your body enough time to release, circulate, and make use of the HGH in your body.

Knowing these 3 getting taller secrets can help you greatly to achieve an increase in height naturally over a period of time. And unlike the limb lengthening surgeries and artificial supplements available, these steps are relatively painless, safe, do not cost exorbitantly high, and most importantly…they are proven to work!

So if you are serious about gaining those extra inches in height, don’t waste anymore time - discover more simple methods that are scientifically proven to help you get naturally taller.

Body Piercing - The Healing Process and Aftercare

July 23rd, 2009

Body piercing has been around for many centuries. Ancient civilizations practiced body piercing and tattooing. In the old days, body piercing was usually related to religion and ancient beliefs. Later on, it became a symbol of status in the society. Nowadays, it’s mostly just for decoration, especially amongst teenagers. They seem to think that having your appendages pierced is cool. Personally, I prefer ladies with no unnecessary holes. I prefer only the holes for earrings. Whatever your reasons and preferences are for getting a body piercing, one fact is relevant: body piercings have risks.

Bacterial infections, tetanus, HIV, allergic reactions, are just a few of the risks you’ll be exposing yourself to if you get your body pierced without professional guidance. To lessen your chances of getting any of these diseases, you have to take precautionary measures. You have to understand the healing process and understand body piercing aftercare. Just because the wound has already healed does not mean you’re no longer at risk.

A new piercing will be red, tender and sore for a few days or weeks. The healing process usually takes weeks, months, or even years, depending on the location of the piercing and the aftercare practice.

Primary healing usually occurs during the first few weeks. The jewelry should not be removed during this point, unless you are having allergic reactions to that particular jewelry. The healing process should never be rushed. During the primary healing period, the wound may seem healed but in reality, it is still very sensitive. Rough handling of the piercing may cause problems.

Full healing starts when the primary healing period is done. It usually takes as long as primary healing. During this time, the skin of the partially healed wound starts to thicken and gain its elasticity. “Toughening up” period is another healing process that takes place after the full healing period is over. The inside area or the fistula tube toughens and adapts to the shape of the jewelry. The whole healing process, from primary healing to the toughening period, could last up to a year, depending on the location of the piercing.

Proper behavior that promotes healing include revisiting the piercer for an evaluation, practicing good hygiene, observing the recommended aftercare guidelines, taking supplements such as iron and zinc (this promotes healing), and sea salt soaks. By observing these behaviors to the T, you lessen your chances of acquiring and passing on harmful diseases.

Planter’s Warts - It’s Not the End of the World!

April 30th, 2009

What if the only cure left for planter’s warts was duct tape? Would you be willing to stick that to your body, or would you just wait for the wart to disappear in its own time? Well it should not be that hard of a decision. Besides, planter’s warts grow on your feet and not on your hands. So walking around town with it would not be as embarrassing as having a piece of gray adhesive on one of your fingers, right?

In reality, there are a number of cures for this type of wart. And these cures are even more effective than duct tape in the way that they make the warts disappear more quickly.

You can always go for laser treatment. Aside from being relatively new and painless, with at least one session the ugly growths on your feet would be gone. The only catch is that it would cost you a small fortune. So unless you are willing to spend a lot of money on your warts, then perhaps you should consider other options.

Nowadays, the more popular medical treatment for warts is cryotherapy. With this treatment the affected area is soaked with a very cold nitrogen solution. The purpose of this is to freeze the warts and the virus that entered the skin. It used to be that this treatment was only available in your doctor’s office. But with the changing times, there are already cryotherapy kits available. This enables people to treat their warts at home. However, like the laser treatment, this could also cost you a lot of money, as the kits are still quite expensive.

Before you resort to using duct tape, there is still another option that you might want to consider. And that is the application of salicylic acid. At present salicylic acids are used to treat calluses and acne. So it is no surprise that it is also being used for warts. And though it takes weeks and even months to take effect, it is proven safe and effective. . . if you have the patience and persistence.

But if you want a cheap and accessible treatment for the cauliflower-shaped growths on your feet, you can opt to use duct tape. Though not really used for medical purposes, studies show that duct tape is actually an effective cure. The only problem with it is that some people develop rashes and irritation from use. Moreover, the adhesive wears off after some time. And since using duct tape requires you to wear it for six consecutive days, for a period of two to three months, putting it back every time it falls off or shifts out of place is a bit inconvenient, and even irritating.

It’s not the end of the world if you have planter’s warts. And duct tape is not your only option. Presented above are some others. The choice is totally up to you.

So, what can you do on your own? Here’s what!

If a planter wart (same as ‘plantar’ wart, by the way) is cramping your style - and you don’t want to risk it spreading, or contaminating someone else - then check out this information:

This particular Planter’s Warts treatment is quick, simple, natural and guaranteed to work for YOU!

How to Get Rid of a Cold Sore - Now!

April 30th, 2009

There are some steps to take to learn how to get rid of a cold sore. These ugly blisters are frequently mistaken for canker sores and vice versa. A canker sore is a bacterial infection that occurs inside or very close to the mouth. They tend to be white in color. A cold sore is red in color, occurs around the mouth and nose and is a pussy blister. Many times the beginnings of an eruption may be like a patch of irritated skin in which you may feel some itching or burning.

The problem is caused by the herpes type 1 virus and once you have this virus there is no getting rid of it. This virus will remain in your nervous system forever. You will frequently get them and you may not be able to prevent them but you can treat them so that they quickly go away. You may also be able to notice and stay away of certain things or events that may trigger an outbreak.

The most important thing to remember is that you don’t want to rub, scratch or touch the areas involved. Cold sores are spread by physical contact and you can spread the virus to the rest of your face causing even more of them to form. Cleaning the affected area with hot soapy water is the best way to sterilize and treat them. The hot water and soap clear away the puss and minimize the infection. It is important to be gentle and not over scrub.
There are certain products that contain petroleum-based ingredients, which promote faster healing. Neosporin is one such product that will seal in the herpes virus to that one spot, keep out other infections as well as not irritating your skin further.

Many times stress, menstruation, acid foods, salty foods, anxiety and exposure to weather can cause cold sores to appear. If you know what causes your outbreaks try to avoid this behavior and if you think you are getting an outbreak you should start the cold sore treatment before any of these nasties appear.

Hand Cream For Dry Skin Does Not Have to Contain Artificial Chemicals

April 30th, 2009

Hand cream for dry skin is something that I know about as I have suffered with dry skin, especially on my hands, for many years. I had looked for the best hand cream for dry skin but never found one that was exceptionally good. After training as an aromatherapist I used to use essential oils blended in a fixed oil because I knew that treatment didn’t contain any unwanted chemicals that could be toxic to my body.

Although using an oil blend helped the skin to feel soft it always seemed to take a while for the oil to absorb into the skin and so my hands would feel oily for a few minutes. One of the best oils that I found was bensoin. Another oil, that was part of a hand cream, that I used when my skin was inflamed and split was hemp oil and although the cream contained artificial chemicals I found that using it now and again would ease my symptoms.

The problem with many bought skin care products are that they contain glycerin, which in fact dries out the skin with constant use, perfume, that can contain up to 300 different aromas to make a scent and many of these aromas are toxic and parabens, an inexpensive preservative that is definitely toxic and has been linked to changes in oestrogen levels in the body.

It is because of the above reasons that I rarely used bought hand cream for dry skin and is also why, until now, I hadn’t discovered the best hand cream for dry skin.

In my opinion anything that we put on our skin should be safe and not toxic and unfortunately most brands of skin care products cannot offer a completely safe, effective product.

The break through, for me, came after a friend bought me some skin care for my birthday. She knew how I felt about artificial chemicals and assured me that these products were different, and they are. There is not one artificial toxic filler or chemical in them, they are made from all natural ingredients; some of which are very specialised in working with the cells of the body to hold on to moisture, destroy enzymes that are responsible for aging and stimulate increased production of collagen and elastin.

I love using these products every day, and unlike the oil treatment that I used to use, they are not greasy and are easily absorbed into the skin. As far as I’m concerned they have the best hand cream for dry skin ever and since I have started using it my skin is no longer split or inflamed and it has even reduced an area of urticara, on my ankle, to almost nothing.

I can’t rate these products highly enough.

Triclosan in Liquid Soap - What Does it Do?

April 30th, 2009

Liquid soaps have become more and more popular in the past 15 years, both in the home and in public places such as hospitals and toilet facilities. They are now firmly resident in kitchens and bathrooms up and down the country. And for good reason; they are less prone to bacterial growth than bar soap and are less messy too.

However, have you ever wondered what goes into the liquid soaps you so often use? Some people find them drying on the skin and experience skin irritation after using them. This is known as contact dermatitis and it is particularly common in those who use liquid soaps regularly as part of their job; perhaps in a hospital or kitchen, where cleanliness is vital.

SLS and Triclosan in liquid soap

There are two chemicals often used in liquid soaps which are responsible for most cases of contact dermatitis. The first of these is Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS), a foaming agent used in many personal care products. As well as liquid soap, you’ll find it in shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste; potentially in pretty much anything that foams! Quite a few people are sensitive to SLS and may experience skin dryness or contact dermatitis after using products with it in.

The second ingredient, which we will look at in a bit more detail, is Triclosan. This is primarily an antibacterial agent but it also has some antifungal and antiviral properties. As well as being used in liquid soap, it is also commonly found in toothpastes, mouthwashes, shaving creams and deodorants. It is a very widely used ingredient, found to be present in over half of all commercial soaps by a study carried out in 2000.

As well as being used in personal care products, Triclosan has a multitude of roles in other areas of life. It is known under a few different names depending on its purpose, such as Microban and Biofresh, but it can be found in some children’s toys, mattresses, bin bags and even escalator hand rails! It is present in many areas of our lives, whether or not we know about it.

There are a number of possible issues with such widespread use of Triclosan, relating to both human health and the natural world. In 2009, the American Public Health Association (APHA) proposed that it would endorse the banning of Triclosan for household and non-medical uses. At the time of writing (also 2009), this proposal has not yet been taken any further.

One reason cited in the APHA proposal was the reports of both contact dermatitis and photo contact dermatitis linked with Triclosan exposure. Photoallergic contact dermatitis occurs when a chemical, in this case Triclosan, apparently causes a skin reaction when exposed to sunshine. It normally takes the form of a rash on sun-exposed areas of the body.

However, it is important to see the wider impact of Triclosan, as it does not seem confined to skin reactions. Large amounts of Triclosan leave our houses in our waste water every day and end up in rivers and other water courses as it is not removed by water treatment plants. It is highly toxic to some types of algae and, if chlorine is present in the water, has been found to form potentially harmful chemicals called dioxins when exposed to sunlight.

The environmental impact of Triclosan has lead the Swedish nature conservation body Naturskyddsföreningen to recommend a national ban on consumer products including the chemical. The Swedish Dental Medical Association is also calling for controlled sale of toothpastes controlling Triclosan. Unfortunately, UK organisations have not yet followed suit in proposing restrictions on Triclosan in personal care products.

Written by Alexandra Gubbins of Green People. Don’t worry - you can trust our organic liquid soaps! They are free from Sodium Lauryl Sulphate and Triclosan and do not have a negative impact on the environment once it has left your house.

The Home Remedy For Cold Sores

April 30th, 2009

I want to talk to you about the home remedy for cold sores. There are a lot of people that great outbreaks of this and fully don’t understand it. I’m often surprised to hear that people think that it is some sort of infection or irritation that happens to cause the problem. That is totally false. You end up with these sores because you have a virus in your body. It is known as HSV-1. You may have heard that cold sores are similar to genital herpes and you’re right. Herpes is caused by the virus HSV-2. I want to share with you the best home remedy for cold sores.

What you have to understand is that there is no cure for the virus. The virus inevitably lays dormant in the body. The reason you can’t cure the virus is that it hides in nerve cells. You can’t destroy nerves because that will cause serious damage, so antibodies leave the virus alone. Staying healthy and keeping your immune system strong is an important part of keeping the virus in a dormant state. That means you should be eating properly and exercising on a regular basis.

The home remedy for cold sores is really about preventing it from spreading. Cold sores are really contagious and the reason that they last for so long is due to the fact that they keep spreading to nearby cells. Keeping everything clean is important. Wash your hands, so you don’t spread it. Keep things as clean as possible and you’ll clear up cold sores much faster.
